How can I get him to appreciate me more?

I have a great boyfriend, but he doesn't really make me feel wanted. He's very pda shy, he doesn't really touch me that much in public; even in movies (at least with friends around) or around his friends he usually doesn't hold my hand or anything. The other day I went to see him and he was with a friend, and I brought him some food and he didn't give me a kiss, not even a hug! We don't sit next to eachother in our social psych cl either (we came in late the first day and had to split up), and I don't really mind but I think it's kind of weird.. I can't go sit next to him because his row is filled up, but there's an empty seat on one side of me. He also never compliments me (and I compliment him regularly), which is what most gets to me. Not even when I get dressed up for something. It's not like he thinks I'm ugly, he approached me the first time because he thought I was really cute. Still though, he has not told me I look good, or that I'm pretty or anything in months. Is this just a guy thing, and how can I get him to be a bit sweeter?
