Laptop charging light blinks & shows status 'plugged in,not charing'?

Dont waste time and run to the nearest service centre b4 the warranty expires, ur battery has gone bonkers. I've a compaq v6000 note book n am having the same prob, but my system is 2.5 yrs old.
