Why does the media care about celebrities and what they do SO much?

is it SO interesting for them to spend time on what other people do? i suppose people with no lives or hobbies work in the media? i logged into msn messenger and saw "BAD JOBS" on Windows live Today. Who cares? do they make money showing ugly and zac efron going to a strip club? NO BODY CARES!!! unless ur like obsessed with said celebrity you might be interested but seriously. dont they have anything else to put up, like earthquakes or storms or the weather perhaps? how nubbish.
